Services

MET-Chem, Inc. provides a full range of NFPA-certificated Marine Chemist services.  We offer entry and hot work certifications, guidance for upcoming or active projects, personnel training, and more.  Whether you are preparing for work or already underway, our team is ready to support your safety needs.

GAS FREE INSPECTIONS AND ISSUANCE OF MARINE CHEMIST CERTIFICATES

Marine Chemist Certificates list the survey date and time, test results and limits of detection, spaces inspected, and the specific precautions required to maintain safe conditions and keep the certificate valid.  In addition, they identify standard safety designations such as: ATMOSPHERE SAFE FOR WORKERS, NOT SAFE FOR WORKERS, ENTER WITH RESTRICTIONS, SAFE FOR HOT WORK, NOT SAFE FOR HOT WORK, SAFE FOR LIMITED HOT WORK, INERTED, etc.  All inspections and certifications are executed in accordance with NFPA® 306, Standard for the Control of Gas Hazards on Vessels.

INERTIONS

Inertions involve filling tanks or other hollow structures with inert gas to eliminate the risk of igniting flammable gases or combustible materials during hot work.  In many cases, this method provides the quickest and most cost-effective way to achieve a SAFE FOR HOT WORK designation because it often requires less time, expense, and effort than cleaning the space or filling it with water.

CONFINED SPACE, COMPETENT PERSON, OR OTHER TRAINING

Training regimens can be tailored to meet the needs of any customer.  Though most of our programs have been prepared for and presented to shipyard personnel, we have also addressed those working in firefighting and other emergency medical services, small boatyard, marine and industrial tank cleaning, repair, and maintenance, marine and industrial blasting and coating, and several other industries.  Call us for a consultation to discuss the preparation of a training regimen specific to your field and needs and we will be happy to assist in any way possible.

CONSULTATIONS

Not sure how to prepare for a job or perform it safely?  Or maybe you have most of the details worked out but still have a few concerns.  Either way, give us a call when you’re in a bind.  We’re here to offer guidance and reassurance so your next project runs smoothly and safely.
